Video and Stills of Public Art in San Francisco: Sanaz Mazinani

Working with Sanaz Mazinani to create marketing images and video of her recent sculpture Rolling Reflection was big fun and a great challenge. Commissioned by the City of San Francisco for permanent installation in the Civic Art Collection, this sculpture is an interactive, delightful
oasis, in a harsh bit of cityscape. (49 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco) Shooting stills and video highlighting the reflections within the reflections, without revealing myself, was an adventure in spacial reasoning.

Joyful interaction was the core marketing message Sanaz needed our images and video to convey. We gathered a cohort of Sanaz’s local pals and worked together to tell the story. As a photographer, I get to experience a lot of cool things, and during this shoot I had the great pleasure of photographing and filming the friends of this talented artist, while they experienced this installation for the first time. I saw exactly what this sculpture was designed to create: joyful interaction, but I saw it through the filter of friends who know and love the creator. Human connection through art. What a great great day that was…

Photographing art always inspires me, and collaborating with Sanaz was icing on the cake. Our world desperately needs more people with her immense kindness and grace.
